Canon PowerShot A590

Customer Review 1- Canon PowerShot A590

The A590IS is the best point and shoot under $200 today (closer to $155 most places). I own an SD600 and my wife, friend, and father (all different people mind you!) own A570IS's. The A590IS is the new version of the A570IS, 2007's best selling camera. Generally, see the rave reviews of the A570IS if you want to know the major pros and cons (in summary: Image Stabilization is amazing, noise is limited, features of all there including manual controls [though no auto-bracketing which no other cameras at this price point have regardless], final picture quality is superior to all other brands at this price point and type, [i.e., point-and-shoot], good size). Rather, here I'll address the main improvements over the A570IS (which is about $30 cheaper):

(1) The A590IS has 8mp vs. 7mp on the A570IS (negligible difference)

(2) The A590IS is slightly faster between non-flash shots BUT slightly SLOWER before the first shot can be taken and slower between shots where flash is used (less than .5 second difference according to CNet)

(3) It's charcoal/gray - minor change from silver, but I like it a lot.

(4) It's "rounder" on the edges but no less stable in your hand, neither camera is too slippery like other overly polished cameras (also, no finger smudges as a result).

(5) There is sometimes increased noise with higher MP cameras, this is NOT the case here - noise levels are similar.

(6) there are some minor additional shooting modes and improvements to other shooting

Cons:
The only change that is not an improvement is the lowering of the frames per second in the video mode.
A570IS: 640x480 = 30fps --- 320x240 = 60fps
A590IS: 640x480 = 20fps --- 320x240 = 30fps

Frankly, this is a bummer and cannon should correct it with firmware ASAP; however, the lower FPS is still quiet good, but this was a pointless change that is not appreciated -- the reality is that most people don't use video often and those who do will see a minimal difference ... if you're paying that much attention to the video you may be more interested in a different camera or a video camera.

Conclusion:
This will be the best selling camera of 2008 and it's a VERY safe purchase you won't regret (unless it gives you such a new found love for photography that suddenly you wish you had a Canon S5 or G7 ... which are more than twice as expensive!).

Customer Review 2- Canon PowerShot A590

This is an excellent camera for the money! It is small enough to carry in a pocket but still large enough to feel good and have a viewfinder so that you can turn the viewing screen off to save the battery. We have taken several hundred photographs so far and are still on the first set of batteries. The photos are excellent quality and the camera is easy to use but sophisticated enough to allow a wide variety of individual priority's such as aperture or timing. It also has the image stabilizer so that unfamiliar people can take photos without blurring them. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Customer Review 3-Canon PowerShot A590

"I've used this camera enough now to know I bought a good, if not a great camera. I shopped for 3 months and learned all I could about "digitals" before choosing the Canon A590.I have other digital cameras. I have used other digital cameras but for the money and the applications I'm using this for I could not have done better. I've continued to shop since I bought this camera and have yet to see anything comparable.

Customer Review 1-Canon PowerShot SD790IS

"I use this as a stand in for my SLR cameras when it is not practicle to carry a large camera. The sd790is will compose as well as my d70s. Recently used it to take short video clips at the Moto GP at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It does a good job when in a resonable range.Good telephoto shots with opticle zoom. Menu is easy and acessable. don't have to scroll through screens to find settings and make changes. everything is at my fingertips.highly recomend canon point and shoot over my sony cyber shot."

Customer Review 2-Canon PowerShot SD790IS

"I went to [...]on a hunt for a new camera, and after testing all the camera's in the store, this camera had the best quality by far. However the price was [$] and I had a feeling I should come online and look for a better deal. Sure enough, I found onecall and it was not only $50 cheaper[...]awesome deals. In terms of the camera I have found that it focuses much better (than my old canon elph 7.0) and look like they are really high res. pics. I will always look at onecall for future tech hunts."

Customer Review 3-Canon PowerShot SD790IS

All those common extras for in-camera editing are included here. The Canon has a lot of extra shooting modes too. These may aid casual users a lot, but you have to spend some time studying the manual and playing with them. I haven't used them all a great deal, but I'm generally happy with using minimal adjustments instead of the shooting modes.

Canon PowerShot SD1100IS

Canon PowerShot SD1100IS

Customer Review 1-Canon PowerShot SD1100IS

I have been using a Powershot I2 IS for the last 3 years. Very good camera with a fantastic 12X Zoom. However, I wanted a camera to carry in my pocket. So many times I just didn't feel like dragging a large camera with me to various parties or events. This camera fills the bill. I carry it everywhere.

The pictures it produces are stunning. The 8MP 3X zoom produces a picture that you can crop to the point that you get almost the same picture as you would have with the 5MP 12X zoom lense (my opinion). The movie feature is wonderful too, even better than the I2 IS.

The camera feels great in your hand with a solid, quality feeling. If you have used Canon cameras before the menus are very intuitive. I would not have purchased this camera (or any camera for that matter) if it did not have the Image Stabilization feature. This is especially a must as you get older.

By the way there is an advantage to the Brown color: If you have to use the optical view finder outside, the camera itself produces minimum glare for you eye to see more clearly through the small opening. The color also makes the LCD playback pop. And as a bonus, it really gives the camera a luxury look, you have to see it in person to appreciate the color.

I recently took it to a monthly card party and everyone went wild over it. So much so that one person sat right down at the computer and ordered one! If you want a sub-compact, pocketable camera that takes great pictures, I highly recommend the Canon SD1100IS.

Customer Review 2-Canon PowerShot SD1100IS

"A friend of mine had one of the original versions of the PowerShot, which he recently upgraded to the 750. I have the SD1100 now and LOVE it. All of the PowerShot cameras have amazing ease of use. They can shoot quickly and without much attention by the user and they still take great quality pictures. I am also an owner of the RebelXT, and while I don't believe anything will beat my SLR, the PowerShot comes as close as anything I've seen yet.

Lately I have used both cameras to take pictures for an area fire department, which involves many different light situations, and my PowerShot handles it all.

The color capabilities and the image rotation accessory are just extra fun features that make this camera a great choice for a first time or experienced photographer!"

Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 Reviews

Sony Cybershot DSC-T77

Customer Review 1-Sony Cybershot DSC-T77

This is our third Cybershot to own in the past 5 years. We have loved them in the past and were impressed with all the features. The zoom is horrible on this camera. Pictures come out grainy when using the zoom. Outside the pictures are great, but life happens in both. We returned it after one week and are still searching for a good camera in this price range. We own a Digital SLR (Pentax) and love taking pictures. My husband is into messing with all the settings. Our previous cybershot took better pictures at a fraction of the cost. No matter what setting we used, the pictures were dark and grainy inside with the zoom. We had to get right up on the subject to get a clear picture. We expected more the price and were dissapointed. Lesson learned: more expensive and higher resolution (and zoom) does not equal a better camera!

Customer Review 2-Sony Cybershot DSC-T77

"Large display is great. Good selection of settings for various types of shots. In highest resolution, it gives a very fine result for print definition and overall color resolution...have only tried up to 8-1/2 x 11 but I think it will be good up to 11 x 14 or larger.

I use this camera mainly for still shots in the 10 ft or less range outdoors and think it will be a big improvement over my previous Sony T1, at only 5.1 MP."
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Customer Review 3-Sony Cybershot DSC-T77

When my sister asked me for this camera for Christmas, I had no idea it was going to be this good. It is about the wide and length of a credit card, yet it can take pictures of amazing quality. Not too long ago you could only get this performance from a professional camera. The size, though, makes it ideal for the party goer or casual photographer. The touch screen is a big plus. My only complains are that the menus and the software do not give all the options one might wish and are not very intuitive.

Sony Cybershot DSCW300

Customer Review 1-Sony Cybershot DSCW300

"A well built, solid pocket camera. Very versatile including manual controls. Has image stabilization. Takes good pictures up to ISO 1600 and acceptable pictures up to ISO 6400. The only negative is the relatively short battery life."

Customer Review 2-Sony Cybershot DSCW300

"I just purchased this camera last month and used it on two personal vacations. It has been great. For a point and shoot, it takes phenomenal pictures. I just uploaded a photo to my desktop, and the detail is just incredible (thanks to the 13.6 megapixels). The battery life seems appropriate- I think I charged it after about 5 days of casual use. I think there have been critiques regarding the flash, but I haven't encountered any problems. Overall, I think that it is a fabulous camera for someone who wants a point and shoot with some extra features and quality."

Customer Review 2-Sony Cybershot DSCW300

After a week of owning this camera, I have been very impressed. The in-camera editing modes are actually really cool. Not sure that I needed 13.6 mp, but bragging rights are always cool. Screen has been very impressive, though I hate the half-second loading/refining delay when browsing through your photos --common to all cybershots-- though it's much improved over my old k790 cybershot. battery life has been fine. smile shutter is a lot of fun, but embarassing when it can't detect smiles (doesn't like detecting people with ugly smiles, or people with hats, I think). Movie mode works well, and the slideshow thing is pretty fancy, with different music choices, even! I miss the BestPic and landscape feature that I had on my last cybershot, though...

Sony Cybershot DSCS780

Sony Cybershot DSCS780

Customer Review 1-Sony Cybershot DSCS780

I got this as a gift, and absolutely love its functionality. So far it's proven easy to use and good quality. The screen is large and vivid. The five-point auto focus works well, and gives you great clarity in your pictures. The flash is a bit slow, but otherwise it's a fast shot. The only downside is that you have to use the sony memory card and adapter in order to get pics onto your computer or printed at the store. Otherwise, it's a great buy! I'd recommend it for someone looking for a compact, easy-to-use digital camera.

Customer Review 2-Sony Cybershot DSCS780

This works pretty well. It does have great features which I believe every 8.1MP camera have. Got this as this was a Sony and the combo deal with the SD card and the care. Picture quality is superb and sharp.

Customer Review 3-Sony Cybershot DSCS780

I'm in the Saltwater Fish Bussines, and its very important to have nice pictures of the exotic fish that arrive every time, and this camera does the job , nice, crisp, 8 MP say averything and if you add a 2 or 4 GB memory stick you can take hundred of pictures .....

Kodak EasyShare C813 Review

Kodak EasyShare C813

Customer Review 1-Kodak EasyShare C813

"I like it."

Customer Review 2-Kodak EasyShare C813

This summer I was looking for a good, yet inexpensive digital camera. I agonized over which camera to buy, but finally was forced to purchase the Kodak EasyShare C813 due to its low price. When I received it in the mail, there was a significant lack of excitement as it was not my first choice.

After using it to take well over 300 pictures so far, I am actually very happy I purchased this camera. The time between the button press and the actual picture being taken is almost nonexistent. The camera uses AA batters, however after all the pictures I have taken, I still have not had to recharge my 2500 mAh Ni-MH rechargable batteries. Not to mention the picture quality being much better than I had anticipated.

When I installed the Kodak Easyshare software that came with the camera, my computer froze several times over the first three or four days I had it, forcing me to restart it several times. After those trying few days, however, I have not had any problems with it.

I am very happy with my camera purchase, despite the software problems, and would definitely recommend this camera to other cost-minded individuals looking to purchase a decent digital camera.

Customer Review 3-Kodak EasyShare C813

I bought this camera for casual picture taking of friends and family, and I am surprised at the picture quality for such a low-priced camera. If you want a digital camera and you are on a budget, I highly recommend this item.
Its very easy to use, easy to transfer to your computer or printer, it's just easy. Kudos Kodak!

"Great Pictures, easy to use, easy software to downlaod and edit - Perfect size. Kodak Easyshares give you the best quality at a great price. These are also the most durable cmeras out there. Simple operation with top quality pics. You will not be disappointed."

Customer Review 2-Kodak EasyShare C913

My husband and I are very happy with the C913. We have been checking to see if we could have bought it at a lower price, but to date we have not found it cheaper any place else. We feel we received the best deal purchasing it on line.

Customer Review 3-Kodak EasyShare C913

"The camera arrived "dead on arrival". A big disappointment, especially since it was a Christmas gift. [...] The camera takes nice quality pictures and is relatively responsive for a point and shoot. Does a very nice job of eliminating red eye."

Nikon D90 DX Reviews

Nikon D90 DX

Customer Review 1-Nikon D90 DX
"This is my 3rd upgrade from D70 to D80, now to D90 and it comes with Live View and Movie Mode. Don't buy this because it has a movie mode, even without it, the D90 is a great buy for starters and professionals. The movie mode just comes handy without carrying a camcorder. The D90 make it worth buying, like the LCD screen, live view, larger sensor, dust reduction and extra in-camera editing. The lens that came with the kit is a good all around. But if you can afford 18-200 then just buy that. Battery life is excellent. I like everything on this camera, except for the slow Live View which I decided not to use anyway except on movie mode ofcourse. This is a great buy at reasonable price. You'll be happy with it, guaranteed!!!"

Customer Review 2-Nikon D90 DX

Awesome picture quality, same as my D300. It is much more plasticy than a D300, but I like it because it's much lighter and fits my hands perfectly. There isn't an obvious video button, but it was easy to figure out once you hit the LV (live view) button it prompts you to press OK to start recording. The top LCD screen is smaller than the D300. The 3 inch screen is amazing, just like the D300. This is a huge leap forward compared to the D80. It's an even bigger leap that they've pulled off high quality video that's user friendly! Put a Sigma 10-20mm or the Nikkor 10.5 fisheye, and you'll have some epic video shots. The 18-105VR lens is lighter than it looks, much lighter than the 18-200VR, feels very solid and is quite smooth. The standard definition video is good (haven't watched it on a large screen yet), and gives you 20 minute clips vs 5 min clips in HD mode. The zoom also worked when in video mode, but the Autofocus is fixed. Once in LiveView it takes a second to autofocus, then you can press OK and start recording. Sound isn't stellar of course. It has a small microphone and speaker, so you can actually hear the video your reviewing. So far this is my favorite new gadget of 2008. Wedding Videographer's rejoice! (i'm shooting one next week)

Customer Review 3-Nikon D90 DX

"You know the camera is good, when after my first time out with it, all my "Canon" friends were praising my pictures even though they kept trying to convince me to get a Canon instead. The lens it comes with is a great starter lens and would recommend that package rather then just the camera body.

My only real complaint about the camera is that I was very excited to use the Movie Mode, and was pretty disappointed. You can only use Movie Mode with the LCD screen, and it's quite difficult to control. If this is your main reason for buying the camera, you might be disappointed. I think it's only good if you have one specific shot that isn't too complicated that you want to get."

Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens

Nikon D40

Customer Review 1

I go through lots of cameras. This was my third DSLR, and about 15th to 20th digital camera. THe D40 takes superb pictures. Don't let the reviewers mislead you into thinking this is just for newbies. It works great for newbies, and for serious advanced photo-enthusiasts. I fall in the latter category and like the camera for the following reasons:

1. Size and weight - easy to travel with.
2. Great image quality right out of the camera. It's nice to enhance photos in software like Photoshop. But it's even better to have a camera that doesn't require you to do that for every shot. I recommend setting the photos to Vivid or More Vivid. Contrary to popular perception, I found these settings actually give you a more accurate color portrayal of the scene.
3. I use the D40 with the 18-200mm Nikon VR lens. They work great in combination.
4. Changing settings is quick and easy even though many are not set with dedicated buttons.
5. I like the way you can review a series of photos zoomed in, and the camera keeps the same zoomed in setting for each photo -- just turn the rear wheel.
6. Camera has a high quality feel.
7. LCD screen is bright
8. Viewfinder is bright.

One thing I wish Nikon had included is grids in the viewfinder -- but can't have everything.

Customer Review 2

"After growing up with a Pentax Super Program, I embraced the digital age with a point and shoot Canon A40. After four years, I realized I missed the versatility of an SLR. I am kicking myself for waiting so long. This camera is a dream! I wish I had gotten the 18-200 lens instead of the 18-55 and 55-200 pair, however, they are both fantastic and I end up carrying them both with me. Next will be the 12-24 wide angle. The colors are so vibrant in landscapes that I can hardly wait for vacation to really give my D40 a workout. Even on a teacher's salary, this camera is worth saving for."

Customer Review 3

"I bought this as an early birthday present to myself, and it's the best one ever! I decided on the D40 rather than the D40x (convincing myself that I would not be making any massive enlargements or cropping into small areas of a photo) so that I could use the difference in cost for buying accessories. So far, I have only invested in a few filters, but would like to get a speedlight next. If I had to do it over, I would probably buy the camera body & a 18-200mm lens rather than toting around the 18-55mm PLUS the 55-200mm lenses that came in the kit. My next big buy will be the 200-500mm Tamron lens! Overall, it was an excellent buy, and the knowledgable staff [...] made it a snap. Also, the classes they offer have been a great basis for learning."
